CINQUE TERRE - TIPS FOR HIKING

Aside from some of Trail #2 as most easiest paths, the Cinque Terre`s trails aren`t for strolling they`re hiking. So dress, and prepare, accordingly!

In particular, of course, hydration is essential, especially during the warmer months.

Wear appropriate shoes, like hiking shoes or comfortable sneakers, to stay safe on the uneven paths. Flip flops and heels are not recommended.

Bring a bag or backpack with the essentials.

Wear layers of breathable clothing, especially in the fall and winter. And in the spring and summer, don`t forget sunscreen, hats, sunglasses and a bathing suit to enjoy a swim in the Ligurian sea, the perfect post-hike reward.

Finally, of course, don`t forget your camera. You`re going to want to stop and take lots and lots of pictures!

When to hike the Cinque Terre

We recommend hiking the Cinque Terre in April, May, September or October. That`s when temperatures are milder, so it`s much more comfortable. These months also attract fewer tourists; at the peak of summer, the narrow trails can get extremely crowded. If you have to hike in the summer, try to head out as early as possible to avoid the sweltering midday heat. In the winter, meanwhile, although the Cinque Terre rarely sees snow, heavy rainfall may lead to landslides and unsafe hiking conditions. Please respect the signs indicating trail closures for your own safety. And always check the up-to-date information on the Cinque Terre National Park website before planning your walk!
